Privacy Policy

Last Updated: June 18, 2026

Quick Summary: WhatToLayer collects nothing. There is no account, no login, no tracking, no advertising, and no analytics. Your settings and saved places live only on your device. The app never sends anything about you to us — because there is no "us" server to send it to.

1. Introduction

WhatToLayer ("we," "our," or "us") is a mobile application that tells you what to wear outside based on the weather and what you're about to do. This Privacy Policy explains how the app handles information. By using WhatToLayer, you agree to this policy.

2. Information We Collect

We do not collect any personal information. WhatToLayer has no user accounts, no sign-in, and no backend server that stores your data. Specifically, we do not collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, or device identifiers, and we do not track your activity across the app or the web.

3. Information Stored on Your Device

To work, the app saves a small amount of information locally on your phone only (using standard device storage). This never leaves your device and is never transmitted to us:

Deleting the app removes all of this from your device.

4. Location

WhatToLayer does not use your device's GPS and does not request location permission. You choose places by typing a town name. The app simply looks up the weather for the place you searched.

5. Third-Party Weather Data (Open-Meteo)

When you look up the weather for a place, the app sends that place's coordinates (latitude and longitude) to Open-Meteo, a free weather service, to fetch the forecast. No account, name, email, or device identifier is sent — only the coordinates needed to return a forecast. We do not store or log these requests. See Open-Meteo's privacy & terms.

6. Advertising & Analytics

WhatToLayer currently shows no ads and contains no analytics or tracking of any kind. If we ever add advertising or an optional paid upgrade in the future, we will update this policy first and clearly disclose what (if anything) changes.

7. Permissions

The app requires only internet access (to fetch the forecast). It does not request location, camera, microphone, contacts, storage, or any other sensitive permission.

8. Children's Privacy

WhatToLayer does not collect information from anyone, including children. The app is safe for all ages.

9. Data Security

Because we don't collect or store your data on any server, there is nothing of yours for us to lose. Requests to the weather service are sent over an encrypted connection (HTTPS).

10. Your Rights

Since we hold no personal data about you, there is nothing for us to access, correct, export, or delete on your behalf. You are always in full control: the information stored on your device is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data in your device settings.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last Updated" date.
